Oily Skin
for dry skin home remedies, care and treatments!
Question: I have oily skin. My makeup almost runs off my face and I'm constantly shiny. What can I do?
First off, be aware that you may have a great problem on your hands. No, really. That excess oil is moisturizing, which means you just need to knock that moisture down a notch or two. Women with excessively dry skin have the bigger obstacle of getting moisture into the skin in the first place. With that moisture, though, comes clogging pores and nasty pimples. So how do you avoid them?
- Hop in that shower! As discussed above, water can dry out skin. Your skin can easily handle showering every day.
- Stay away from the scrubs. Just like dry skin, scrubs just irritate your skin further, especially if youre prone to breakouts.
- Dont pick or scratch at pimples or blackheads. You open your skin up to bacteria and irritation, two things that bring on nothing but more breakouts.
- Experiment with moisturizer abstinence. Try going a few days without applying any facial moisturizers. If your skin feels good to the touch and youre happy, then chuck that bottle and add $10 back to your monthly budget.
- Look for oil-free makeup to avoid exacerbating the problem.
Many beauty magazines instruct you to use an alcohol-based toner to cut down on oil. If you have good luck with one, then keep using it by all means. In most cases, however, alcohol dries the skin temporarily but excessively, and that change in chemistry can lead to breakouts and irritation.
