Exercise = Great Skin!

Exercise = Great Skin!

I asked my doctor about improving my skin, and he told me to exercise. That doesnt make sense to me.

Why not?

As we've discussed, having excess fat in your body is detrimental to your overall health and the appearance of your skin. Exercise is a great way to cut down on fat and increase muscle without having to make drastic dietary changes. Increasing muscle also helps keep your skin from becoming more and more slack as you age, since muscle is what holds skin up and gives it a perkier appearance.

Also, if you look at a lot of the skin care products currently on the market, they're geared toward increasing the circulation and blood flow to the face. Massagers, vibrating scrubbers, microdermabrasion they all have aspects that improve circulation. Exercising does this on a larger scale by jumpstarting your metabolism and getting the blood flowing to your entire body. If you haven't been to a gym lately, head outside for a brisk ten-minute walk this evening. When you come back inside, take a look in the mirror. Like what you see? Exercising can make that rosy, cheery glow nearly permanent, since the metabolic effects of a workout last up to eight hours after youve finished.

We've all heard the take the stairs and park farther away from the store and walk in methods of working exercise into your daily routine, but even those quickly fade because you have a sore knee, its raining, or any other excuse that may pop into your head. If you want to get your skin looking great, take that first step and get into a regular routine. Even if its only a 10-minute power-stroll around your block each night, at least youre getting out of the house and getting the blood pumping through those veins. If you want a more strenuous workout but still dont have much time, look for one of the many exercise videos or DVDs now made with a busy schedule in mind. With quick 5 or 10-minute segments, you can plan a workout thats exactly the right length for whatever chunk of time you alot.

If you're overweight, you have even more reason to take that stroll. Being even slightly overweight can lead to varicose veins and stretch marks, two big skin no-nos. It also places you at a higher risk for a variety of different illnesses and diseases, all of which sap your energy and appearance. Even if you have trouble losing weight, make exercise a part of your daily routine. Being overweight and physically fit is far more beneficial than being overweight and sedentary.

Beyond the metabolic effects, the endorphins you feel after working out give you that slight natural high. Its often just enough to get a smile on your face and a spring in your step, two things that can help brighten your skin and your day.

Im not really the hardcore workout type. Is there anything physical I can do that wont require me being a gym goddess?

Exercise should really be an element in your life, regardless of how light or heavy impact you want your workout to be. Try and do something active at least three times a week to improve your general health.

That said, if you really can't stand the thought of the treadmill or taking a walk, look into meditation. This can also be added to any current gym goddess workout, as its benefits are slightly different. Practicing meditation, yoga, or other form of spiritual exercise can bring a greater sense of fulfillment to your life and help you feel more centered. In addition, they're amazing stress reducers, can help regulate your metabolism, and even slow your heart rate to relieve tension in your body. Each of these benefits also helps increase your skins health.

Meditation isnt necessarily all ohm, though. You can do something as simple as leaning back in your chair, doing a few simple stretches, and then focusing your attention on something rudimentary. Get a cup of yogurt or a tasty snack, but dont just scarf it down. Think about how the cup feels in your hand, the cool slipperiness of the condensation, the texture of the yogurt in your mouth by thinking and focusing exclusively on these tiny, momentary experiences, you help clear your mind and cleanse your spirit.

Even better, let someone else do the work for you and go get a massage! Long considered a luxury, massage is now known to help a variety of health problems.
