"I'm having a makeup crisis. I'm turning 18 and going to the prom. I don't have a 'look,' and I don't know where to start. I don't even know what I like. Help!"
You know what prom" stands for, don't you? Let me make sure you do: "pretty ridiculous overpriced memory." But what a memory! It's true, it's a good formal party to experience as an adult and a good way to celebrate graduation
Now, take a deep breath and listen to me. You do know what you like
- For makeup tips, read my column on being a "Makeup Virgin".
- Repeat this mantra: "I'm attending the prom. The prom is not attending me."
- Make a pact with yourself to honor your individual beauty. Remember, you're not attempting to create a prom face. There's no such thing, and if you think there is, you've fallen prey to advertising hooey. Your identity isn't changing, so don't try to change it.
- Don't overdo it or wear anything you're not comfortable with, like packing on foundation or testing out magenta-red lips. Instead, let those freckles shine through, let the natural pinkness of your lips prevail? you're 18
-- be 18!
- What's your favorite color? A shimmery lilac? A cool kelly green? Incorporate that color into your prom look, and make it yours. Celebrate yourself. It's a party!
