Facial Home Recipes

Are there any home/alternative/herbal recipes for masks, scrubs, or anything else?

Definitely. Below are some quick and simple recipes for home spa treatments. All of the ingredients should be available at your grocery store, but if you can't find something try a whole foods market or the organic section of your store.

Text Box: HERBAL STEAM BATH Licorice root Ginger root 2 tablespoons dried lavender 1 tablespoon dried mint (your choice) 1 tablespoon dried rosemary 1 tablespoon dried thyme Pour all of the herbs into your steam bowl/sink. Break off chunks of each root and place in bowl. Pour extremely hot water over mixture and cover with towel; allow to sit for one minute before beginning steam bath.

Text Box: SUGAR SCRUB 1 cup sugar (you can use the stuff in your cabinet!) 1 teaspoon essential oil (your choice) 1 teaspoon dried rosemary 1 teaspoon dried lavender 1 teaspoon grated lemon/lime/orange zest Blend all ingredients in a blender until well-mixed and a fine powder. Store in a tightly sealed jar. When ready to use, one or two tablespoons mixed with water is plenty for your entire face. Because the granules are smaller, this scrub won’t run as much of a risk of tearing your pores.

Text Box: SALT SCRUB 1 cup finely ground sea salt 1 teaspoon dried lavender cup almond oil cup walnut oil 1 teaspoon essential oil (your choice) Grind the salt and lavender in a blender until extremely fine. Pour into a jar that can be tightly sealed. Add essential oils and stir, then stir in almond and walnut oils. This finely ground scrub packs a double-whammy of exfoliation and moisture.

Text Box: CREAMY CLEANSER cup buttermilk 1 tablespoon plain yogurt. 2 tablespoons oatmeal 1 tablespoon chopped almonds Grind oatmeal and almonds in food processor or blender until they form a fine powder. Add buttermilk and yogurt, then smooth over face and rinse after 15 minutes. For an extra treat, add 1 teaspoon honey to the mix!

Text Box: CLAY MASK 2 tablespoons white clay (you may have to buy this online, but it’s worth it!) teaspoon honey 2 strawberries Mash the strawberries until chunky but somewhat smooth. Stir in honey, then incorporate clay. You should be able to spread this easily with your fingertips. Leave on skin for at least 15 minutes, then rinse.

Text Box: EGGY MASK 1 egg white teaspoon fresh lemon juice teaspoon fresh lime juice cucumber 1 teaspoon fresh peppermint leaves, chopped Puree all ingredients in a blender and allow to mix until well-incorporated. Chill in refrigerator for 15 minutes. Smooth onto face using fingertips, then leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with cool water and moisturize.

Text Box: PIMPLE POPPER Apple cider vinegar 1 drop peppermint oil Cotton ball Band-aid or adhesive tape If you still have a few pimples after your home facial, this should help reduce them. Before bed, soak the cotton ball in vinegar, squeeze until simply damp, and apply oil. Place the non-oil side of the cotton ball against the pimple and attach using Band-aid/tape.
